Sydney’s road planning has been dense for decades,
largely building on — and being restricted to — maps created by colonial settlers more than two centuries ago. It’s a city where almost everything, including roads, has been built according to necessity rather than being designed in advance.
Naturally, this has caused problems for modern drivers. Suburbs just a few kilometres from one another are separated by jam-packed roads, creating needlessly lengthy trips.
But the WestConnex tunnel is set to change that. The WestConnex is a joint project between New South Wales and Australian Governments, designed to provide transport relief across Sydney.
Providing solutions for Sydney’s transport issues
Scheduled for completion in 2023, the WestConnex is a 33km motorway network stretching from the M4 at Parramatta in the West to Haberfield in the east. The M4-M5 Link — a critical component of the WestConnex tunnel — connects the Rozelle Interchange to the M8 at St Peters. In fact, the WestConnex project is the city’s largest-ever transport project.
Operating on a massive scale, the WestConnex has involved a huge amount of contractors in taking it from concept to execution. And that’s where TradeConnex comes in.
Providing staff for the future of Sydney’s transport
Here at TradeConnex, we’ve been fortunate enough to provide over 100 workers and support four different clients with constructing the WestConnex tunnel. We have also been fortunate to have worked on various project sections, including the M4 tunnel, M5, M8, and the M4-M5 Link.
This project required us to recruit across a number of different sectors. Sourcing the right team members for WestConnex jobs was essential, given the scope of the project and the number of different skill sets required. By working with the trade community across the city and beyond, we were able to deliver our portion of the project on time and to expectations, despite outside complications like COVID-19 and the resultant work restrictions.
We’re honoured to have played a part in its construction and been able to work on a project that reduces daily commuters’ time travelling to work each day. When it opens in 2023, we’ll be proud to have contributed to its creation.
