New South Wales’ light rail is an active leader in improving sustainability in Australia,
promoting the accessibility of public transport for its growing population while reducing traffic congestion. The Parramatta light rail project addresses the NSW government’s expected population growth of approximately 130,000 people living within walking distance of the light rail by 2026. This innovative project will allow more frequent trains with increased space to accommodate more passengers. What’s more, the extensive build will help reduce road traffic, lower carbon emissions, improve air quality and contribute to the better health of our planet.
Stretching from Westmead to Carlingford, the Parramatta light rail will support an increase in visitors to the area, benefitting local businesses and providing them with additional exposure to potential customers. This project will better establish and promote Parramatta as Sydney’s second CBD while pioneering the future of public transport in Australia.
Providing environmental benefits and efficient travel solutions for Parramatta’s businesses and inhabitants
Parramatta’s light rail will span 12 kilometres with 16 accessible stations. It will provide a direct link between the Westmead Health Precinct, Cumberland Hospital Precinct, CommBank Stadium, the Camellia Town Centre, science, technology and innovation museum Powerhouse Parramatta, and private and social housing across the city.
Commuters have additional options to travel between Sydney and Parramatta and everywhere in-between, with services running from early to late every 7.5 minutes during peak periods. These travel solutions will also minimise traffic congestion, which will benefit our environment. Fewer cars on the road will improve air quality, produce fewer fumes and create less pollution. These effects will be felt for multiple decades to come.
As part of the extensive Parramatta light rail project, “active transport links” will be built and accessible by mobility scooters, wheelchairs, skateboarders, and people with prams. This makes it safer, more inclusive and easier for people to get around while providing quicker and easier access to local shops, parks, community facilities and public transport.
Given the size and scale of this project, construction for the Parramatta light rail project has required much work and coordination with government bodies. That’s why Transport for NSW is working closely with TradeConnex’s expert contractors to build and construct Parramatta’s light rail in a timely manner.
Specialist recruitment for Parramatta’s light rail project
At TradeConnex, we’ve been fortunate enough to source more than 100 diligent workers to support and enable the construction of Parramatta’s light rail project. We’ve recruited on a large scale across many sectors, including machine operations, electricians, and scaffolding. Converting the existing single-track heavy rail into a dual-track light rail required various skill sets, so sourcing suitable candidates was paramount to the success of this project.
Despite the unprecedented outbreak of COVID-19 and its resulting work restrictions, the project is still underway and is expected to be complete by 2023 to contribute to Australia’s role in sustainability and unburden our future population spike.
TradeConnex has been honoured to source jobs for Parramatta light rail. Contributing towards more sustainable travel ensures the daily commute is easier for residents. Our work will also help the environment and promote an increase in visitors to the area which will benefit local businesses.
